Rut for pronghorn antelope in this area typically peaks in the last week of September and the first part of October.Īdditional Hunting/Fishing Opportunities: Cottontail rabbit are most abundant in sagebrush/greasewood and rimrock habitats in the area. Roads in many portions of this hunt area become muddy and nearly impassable when wet. ![]() Weather may vary from dry and windy with temperatures in the 70s and 80s to freezing cold with significant snowfall, even in September. Many of the pronghorn in this herd unit are found along the northern edge of the area during the hunting season, so hunters are encouraged to look into WHMA and Access Yes hunting opportunities. Pronghorn antelope concentrate on irrigated croplands and riparian meadows, which are more common along the North Platte River and other major creeks in the area. Summer and fall densities of pronghorn antelope tend to be tied to available water and lusher habitats. General Statement Regarding this Hunt Area: With the exception of the forested mountains and mountain foothills which contain open coniferous/aspen forests and mountain shrubs, pronghorn antelope can be found throughout this hunt area. Cropland agriculture is generally restricted to areas along the major rivers and creeks. Habitats occupied by pronghorn antelope in the area include sagebrush steppe, riparian, saltbush, greasewood, and agricultural cropland. Topography and Vegetation: The area is topographically diverse with broad, rolling plains dominated by sagebrush, grasslands, and saltbushes along the I-80 corridor steep timbered mountains, rugged canyons, breaks, and draws in the Snowy Range Mountains and broken rimrock and irrigated hay meadows along the North Platte River.
